Finally...
A year has passed and a lot has changed. Nathan resigned from position as a manager at Star Coffee Co. and entered the corporate world to join Ashley. They were looking for new hires and he passed the interview, and the examinations, with ease. He is part of another team doing different tasks from Ash's team.
It was a huge adjustment for Nathan but he was able to finish the training as the top trainee of the bunch. He wasn't really sure if he was able to adjust to this new environment but was please about how he finished his first two months. It was a great start of the new year so they decided to treat each other with a trip up north. They will be spending the weekend there and they opted to drive rather than ride the bus.
"Look's like everything is set babe, shall we go now?" Nathan said.
"Sure babe," Ash replied.
This will be their first road trip together and they are ecstatic. Ash will be driving during the first half of the trip. Nathan insisted on driving instead but she was so persistent that he had no choice but to agree to her. Everything is packed and well planned for the trip. It will also be a late anniversary celebration. They were busy with work that they didn't have time to celebrate on the exact date of their first anniversary, this weekend will be a blast that is for sure.
Halfway during their trip, Ash's phone rang. It is a good thing that her phone is connected to her car so she could answer calls hands free.
It's James.
"Hi baby, how are you? Ate is on her way to you, are you almost there?" she said.
James is a friend that she met online. He is younger and looked up to her as his big sister. He lives in a city up north and wanted to meet up with her since it has been a while since they last seen each other. They will be meeting up at a mall near his house.
"Am almost at the mall ate. Is kuya Nathan with you?" James asked.
"Yes he is. Say hi to him babe,"
"Hi James! I am looking forward to finally meet you,"
"Awwww, thank you kuya! I am looking forward to meeting you as well. See you both! Take care!"
"You too baby, be safe. See ya soon," Ash dropped the call.
It took a while for Nathan and Ash to arrive at the mall because they needed to fill up their car's tank along the way. Upon finding a good parking spot, they held hands and went to the mall. They will be meeting James at the food court where a restaurant serve bibimbap and bulgogi. They looked for seats and waited for him to arrive.
"I am sorry ate if I am late. I saw my classmate from grade school and we had to catch up. How was your trip?" James explained enthusiastically.
"Oh how I missed you baby, you look so big now. The trip was smooth, a bit tiring but we we're able to reach here in time," she answered.
"That is good to hear ate. Hi kuya Nathan, it is nice to finally see you in person," he reached out to shake Nathan's hand.
"A hand shake? You are like a brother to Ash, just give me a hug. Come here you," Nathan gave him a tight embrace.
It was like a sweet reunion of a long lost brother and sister. James cannot stop smiling and was grateful that he met Ash and Nathan. He was having troubles at school but this meeting made him feel better. After talking for a little bit about their lives, they decided to grab lunch.
Ash was so looking forward to tasting this restaurant's bibimbap and bulgogi again. They also serve awesome seaweed soup as a side dish. Their choices of banchans are endless too. It was like heaven on earth. Nathan isn't into spicy food that much so he opted to order bulgogi with the soup. James ordered bibimbap just like Ash did and opted for additional chili paste on his plate.
Their table was filled with korean goodness. James and Ash both ordered three banchans each with seaweed soup. Nathan stuck with bulgogi and soup with no banchans. They also ordered one serving of steamed egg because it is new on the menu and they wanted to try it out. They didn't order any dessert, that will come later before they part ways.
The bunch enjoyed their lunch and the fun conversations in between. They took photos as remembrance of this special day and James was very pleased. Nathan and Ash wanted to stay longer but they needed to go back on the road to avoid traffic. Just before leaving, they bought milk tea for dessert. Bidding each other goodbye, Ash gave James the warmest hug and handed him a small box.
"What's this ate?" he asked.
"She bought it for you and told me that she is certain that you will love it," Nathan said.
"Open it," Ash added, smiling.
To his surprise, James saw a bracelet with his name etched on it.
"Ate, you shouldn't have," James' eyes started to water.
"Oh you. Don't cry. I just wanted to give you something to let you know that ate Ash remembers you always and that I love you so much ok? If you need me, just hit me up ok?" Ash hugged him again.
Wiping his eyes dry, he returned the hug but tighter. The two were inseparable for a couple of seconds and then they unlocked from each other's embrace.
They bid each other goodbye and promised to stay in touch. Nathan saw the sincerity in James' eyes and he was happy that he met him. Meeting people close to Ash makes him feel more secure and welcomed into her world. She may be timid but she has many friends that value her as a person and loves her unconditionally.
"I should drive now, you've been doing it for the first three hours of our trip," Nathan insisted.
"But I wanted to drive up there," she said with puppy eyes.
"Don't show me that face," he giggled.
"Please let me drive," she pleaded.
"Oh you little princess," he tickled her.
As if he has an option, he agreed to Ash driving until their reached the hotel. He was her weakness and these were the little arguments that they have everyday. She was so independent that he had to keep up and accept that she will do whatever she wants when she wants it but he makes sure that he will be backing her up no matter what and will rebuttal when he needs to step up and help her out.
Four more hours before they reach their destination and they cannot wait to feel the cool breeze up north. They will also be meeting Ashley's best friend Meredith who moved in with her husband Paschal and child Atasha. This will be their first meeting in almost three years.
After checking in to their room, the couple took their time to clean up so that they can rest. They will meet Meredith for dinner at a restaurant near the hotel. The weather was perfect and they cannot wait to start their weekend here.
