Baby steps to help Mother Nature

Here are steps that I took, want to make, to help Mother Nature.

The Earth has been struggling because of our irresponsibility. We have been using single-use plastics for the longest time, constantly throwing garbage everywhere (including bodies of water), smoke belching cars and other ways that destroys the only planet that we have. I have grown to learn to make small steps in helping clean the planet, I will also include other things that I know will help out as well.

1. Metal or bamboo straws. Being a milk tea addict myself, using plastic straws will add up to the worlds garbage and may end up in the oceans that is why I bout a set of metal straws and bought a bamboo straws for drinking boba. I have these with me at all times because you will never know when I will be buying anything to drink.

2. Stevia drops. Sugars in cafes are encased in sachets that also adds to our everyday trash so I decided to buy stevia drops to not only monitor my sugar intake but also to lessen the sugar packets thrown whenever I am drinking coffee.

3. Keeping coffee sleeves and carriers. One of my colleagues told me that she keeps drink sleeves and carriers so that she can still reuse it the next time she buys coffee. It made me think that this is another way to help the environment but reusing things. There are hacks such as using old socks, sleeves from a sweater or making your own that can be found on YouTube and Pinterest. I also found crochet cup sleeves being sold online as well.

4. Eco bags. Carrying eco bags whenever you go shopping helps lessen the use of single-use plastic bags. These bags are even sturdier than plastics and can be used a dozen times, plus they come in different colors and designs too.

5. Bringing your own utensils. There are times when restaurants run out of actual utensils because of the number of people eating at once and can only offer you plastic ones that are bad for the environment. I was able to buy a pair with the same color scheme as my metal straws. You can bring a pair from your house and put them in pouches to keep them sanitized or wash them once you're in the restaurant for good measure.

6. Bringing your own cup. I know that these are being sold everywhere so getting one for yourself is easy. I know that bringing your own cup is a hassle but helping out the environment in small ways is better than adding to the garbage that we already have. Plus most cafes offer discounts to people who carry their own cup with them when they order coffee.

7. Reusing brown tissue. I have been keeping and using brown tissues for the longest time. I use it to dab off the oil from my face and I love them because it absorbs better than oil control film.

8. Opt for paper bags if you don't have eco bags. If you forgot to bring your own bag when shopping, if there is an option to choose paper bags, please do so. You can reuse these as container for your lunch or even as trash bags.

These are just small ways on how we can help our planet be cleaner and safer to live in. There are more ways that you can help and small things can build up into big things if you put your heart to it.
